Prior to the on-site installation and assembly, demolition of the existing asbestos-contaminated trailers was performed.
Stuart House
A vital facility located in Santa Monica, Stuart House is an internationally recognized, state-of-the-art center that was established to serve the special needs of sexually abused children and their families. The 3-story, 21,064 SF facility was established by the Rape Treatment Center at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center. With a comforting, residential feel, the building is a Type V-B commercial structure with a below grade basement that is situated in an area dotted with multi-family residential complexes. All services are free to children and their families and access to 24-hour crisis intervention and emergency medical care access are available.
Caltech Dabney Hall of the Humanities
A jewel on the Caltech Campus, Dabney Hall was built in 1928 and designed by Goodhue Associates. This historic preservation and rehabilitation project included a seismic upgrade to the 31,100 SF, 3-story-plus-basement building and allowed for the centralization of Caltech’s Humanities Department. The intricate 1st floor remodel involved a spiral staircase at the first level to the basement stacks, treasure room, library and administrative offices. The upper floor remodel included a large lecture room, classrooms, and seminar rooms.
Brentwood Middle School
A contemporary and sustainably designed and constructed 4-story, 72,000 SF school facility with lower level parking on the east campus, the new Brentwood Middle School represents the first phase of a 30-year educational and master plan. Built into a hillside, features include classrooms, faculty offices, theater/lecture hall, music, dance and visual arts spaces, library, cafeteria with commercial kitchen, student patios and artificial turf soccer field. Plentiful landscape, pedestrian walk ways, and overlooks augment the campus environment, reinforcing the special look and feel that represents Brentwood School.
Occidental College Athletic Facility
This project provides a new 58,000 SF Pool Complex and expanded Tennis Center, which now meets NCAA standards and allows Occidental to host conference matches. The existing 1930’s era pool that no longer meets modern competition standards has been removed and a new 25-yard by 35-meter pool with 15 practice and 8 competition lanes has been built, which accommodates competitive swimming, deep-water diving and water polo. It is equipped with a 13.3 foot-deep diving well, one 1-meter, and two 3-meter diving boards. A new 316 seat grandstand and adjacent student recreation areas, including a plunge and oval green, enhance the Pool Complex.
City Charter CLIC
City Language Immersion Charter (CLIC) is an 18 classroom, K-5 Spanish language immersion school that accommodates 440 students and includes administrative offices. Notable features in this 18,000 SF, two-story building are wall-mounted smart projectors in each classroom, roll-up doors in the first floor classrooms, elevator, and a welcoming lunch shelter with shade structure. Two of the classrooms have movable partitions, which provide class size flexibility and multipurpose space. The existing perimeter block wall was reinforced to accommodate new decorative wrought iron fencing that balances security with aesthetics. Traffic-heavy Venice Boulevard prompted limited site access and required us to finesse site logistics so as not to disrupt the neighborhood.
Pasadena Conservatory of Music
Constructing an elegant new recital hall in this cherished historic building, which was designed by Pasadena architect Fredrick Kennedy and constructed in 1929, required a surgical-like approach. Located within the 14,000 SF cast-in-place type V-B structure, the resulting concert hall and performance space boasts a state-of-the-art audio-visual system, high end theatrical lighting, plush theatrical seating, and attractive acoustic panels. Underground ducting and site improvements were made to tie together the 4-building campus and improve parking.
