GRADUATE AEROSPACE LABORATORIES AT
THE CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
The Daniel Guggenheim Building, home of the Graduate Aerospace Laboratories at the California Institute of Technology (GALCIT), re-opened in September 2008 and features new laboratories, offices, conference facilities, and a new lobby. In addition to major seismic reinforcement, a full upgrade of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems was completed, an existing double-height space was reconfigured, and a new stair was added to connect the second and third floors. New insertions throughout the building include a suspended plastic and resin ceiling, custom graphic wall coverings, archival and display vitrines, and a backlit, stainless-steel donor wall. Additionally, the sprinkler and fire alarm systems for the Guggenheim, Firestone, and Karman Buildings were upgraded.
