ANIMO JUSTICE CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL: GREEN DOT and
ANIMO RALPH BUNCHE CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL: GREEN DOT
This LEED certified, type III-1 hour project is a conversion of two existing, connected, 1-story manufacturing warehouse structures into two interconnected Green Dot Charter High Schools with the buildings totaling 77,000-square-foot on a 87,000-square-foot lot. It is now the permanent home of two Green Dot Jefferson schools, Animo Justice and Animo Ralph Bunche. The project encompasses full renovation of the existing structures and the insertion of a new second story into one of the structures. It provides 48 classrooms including 4 science laboratories, library, multipurpose room, administrative offices and a gymnasium. New site features include a canopy, an entry ramp/stair structure as well as the re-landscaping of an existing parking lot across the street. The school uses such energy saving systems and green products as lighting controls, skylights and windows in every classroom, a bio-based VCT system as well as dual flushing toilets and waterless urinals. This project is the first LEED® for Schools accredited high school in California and received a 2009 Los Angeles Architectural Award from the Los Angeles Business Council for exceptional contribution in the category of renovation.
